Group 1 HW

I really hate grammar, but reading these few pages in Noden’s book gave me a little bit of confidence that I may be able to understand grammar personally as well as teaching it. I liked the concept of the “5 brush strokes,” and I realize how important grammar really is when dealing with how to effectively communicate my ideas to others through writing.

I think everyone hates grammar until they realize that they do not have to use perfect grammar to produce good, creative, interesting writing. Hopefully the Noden book and the material presented in class will help to show that!

I agree with Ashley Vogl. I think we all tend to have a fear of grammar and of teaching grammar especially. What happens if we don't know the answer to a student's question or what if we forget what a grammar term is called? All of us feel this way. I think the beauty of Noden is his focus on structures and creative writing techniques that focus students on the whole, rather than the parts.

Hey...so don't forget to email your reflection/assesment thing to shannon in the next five days-- we really didnt talk about too much just that the second day went a lot smoother than the first. She brought up how maybe we should have read the letter to the president earlier bc it was kinda heavy to put at the end.
